The Authority Chief Executive, Engineer Saidu A. Mohammed, has called for stronger alignment of digital technologies, capital investment, and policy frameworks to enhance efficiency in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

He made the call at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council’s Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF) 2026, held in Abuja.

Mohammed said Nigeria’s target of 3 million barrels per day crude oil production must be pursued alongside the 22 billion cubic feet per day “Decade of Gas” production target.

According to him, achieving these targets requires adequate financing, efficient technological systems, and robust policy frameworks capable of attracting and sustaining investments in the sector.

He disclosed that the Authority will soon unveil “Project NEXUS,” a strategic initiative designed to strengthen regulatory effectiveness, accelerate gas development, and position Nigeria as a leading energy hub in Africa.

The NUPRC boss emphasised that increased investment in critical infrastructure, adoption of advanced technologies, and sustained collaboration among stakeholders are essential to meeting the country’s energy goals.

Other speakers at the event included the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperipe Ekpo; the Commission Chief Executive, Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan; the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari; and other industry leaders.
