The management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPoly), Abeokuta, has expelled 365 students for securing admission into the institution with forged academic credentials.
The affected students, all enrolled in various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, were discovered to have presented falsified National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts during the admission and registration process.
The expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by the institution to authenticate credentials submitted by students.
In a statement issued by the polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, the institution disclosed that the fraudulent admissions were uncovered after a thorough review of documents submitted by the affected students.
A breakdown of the expulsions revealed that the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number of affected students, with 156 cases.
The School of Business and Management Studies followed with 117 students, while the School of Science and Technology had 54 affected students. The School of Engineering recorded 36 cases, and the School of Environmental Studies had two students expelled.
Speaking on the development, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Koye Jolaoso, described the action as a demonstration of the polytechnic’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and upholding high ethical standards.
Jolaoso reiterated the institution’s zero-tolerance policy toward examination malpractice, certificate forgery, and other fraudulent practices capable of undermining the credibility of academic qualifications.
He also warned prospective applicants against presenting fake credentials, stressing that the institution would continue to implement strict verification measures to preserve its reputation and ensure transparency in its admission process.
The rector added that the polytechnic remains committed to repositioning itself as a centre of excellence built on credibility, merit, and accountability in tertiary education.
