A Delta State indigene, Mr. Lawrence Thompson, has reportedly fled his hometown of Ilabor Igbodo Village in Ika North-East Local Government Area, following threats to his life stemming from a bitter local political dispute.
Mr. Thompson, born on August 16, 1977, disclosed that he was forced to abandon his home on November 5, 2025, after being targeted by political thugs allegedly loyal to a faction opposed to his political stance.
The violence has now followed his family to Lagos. According to reports, his wife, Mrs. Cynthia Ateseme Thompson (born November 8, 1987), and their two children, Jayden Osedume Thompson (born October 18, 2013) and Gerald Thompson (born August 12, 2015), are currently residing at 7 Alamu Salau Street, Idimu, Lagos, where they have also come under threat.
Family sources confirm that after Mr. Thompson left Delta State to seek safety, unknown men believed to be the same political thugs began frequently visiting the family’s Lagos residence, issuing threats and aggressively demanding to know his whereabouts.
“They have been coming around, harassing my wife and frightening my children. I left home to protect my family, but now they are being targeted too,” Mr. Thompson stated in a brief message shared from an undisclosed location.
Local residents in Igbodo reportedly link the threats to ongoing tensions between rival political camps in the area, which have escalated sharply in recent months.
Mr. Thompson has issued an urgent appeal to security agencies to intervene immediately and ensure the safety of his family.
He also urged political leaders in Delta State to call their supporters to order, stating clearly, “Politics should not cost anyone their peace or their family’s safety.”
As of press time, neither local authorities in Ika North-East LGA nor the Delta State Police Command have issued an official statement regarding the matter.
