The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 33-year-old man, Wale Ogunleye, before a Magistrates’ Court on charges of allegedly stealing 124 pigs valued at a staggering N12,400,000 (Twelve Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira).
Prosecutor Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi informed the court that the defendant, Wale Ogunleye, acted in concert with others who are currently at large.
The alleged crime took place over an extended period, spanning between 2022 and 2025, in Ipoti-Ekiti within the Ido-Ekiti Magisterial District.
The stolen livestock belonged to one Philip Arogundade. Inspector Oriyomi stated that the alleged actions constitute an offence punishable under Sections 421 and 302(1)(a)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021, which relate to conspiracy and stealing.
Counsel for the defendant, Barrister Adunni Olanipekun, pleaded with the court to grant her client bail, assuring his future appearance for trial.
The Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, subsequently granted Mr. Ogunleye bail in the sum of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) with two sureties required in the like sum.
The case has been adjourned until November 3 for further hearing.
