A 20‑year marriage turned violent on October 31, 2025, when Ojapo Lucky, a 45‑year‑old resident of Igede‑Ekiti, allegedly attacked his wife, Hannah Lucky, with a concealed machete at her shop in the Ilamoye area.

According to eyewitnesses and a video obtained by this newspaper, the incident began after a dispute over community and family taboos that first surfaced in April 2023. The couple had separated earlier this year, with Mrs. Lucky retaining custody of their five children.

At approximately 2 p.m., Mr. Lucky entered the shop, brandishing the weapon and reportedly told his wife it would be her “last day alive.” In the ensuing struggle, Mrs. Lucky attempted to flee. She sustained severe injuries to her hand, head, and other parts of her body. The machete struck her hand, causing extensive tissue loss, and she was also hit on the head.

Neighbors heard her screams, intervened, and rushed her to a nearby clinic in Iyin‑Ekiti. She was later transferred to a hospital in Ado‑Ekiti after losing consciousness from significant blood loss.

Community members apprehended Mr. Lucky as he tried to flee the scene and handed him over to police for investigation. He is currently in custody pending legal proceedings.

In a brief interview after receiving medical treatment, Mrs. Lucky said she had one child before marrying Mr. Lucky and later bore four more children with him. She expressed relief that her children are safe and called for an end to domestic violence.
