A 50-year-old man, Abdulrasaki Danladi, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman with an iron rod at an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo.
Danladi whose address was not provided, is facing a one-count charge bordering on assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Evelyn Motim, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 30 at about 10:00 p.m. at Igbore Village, Iro Town Owode-Egba in Abeokuta.
Motim said the defendant violently assaulted the complainant, Mrs Fausat Zanku without no prior encounter.
She added that Fausat, who was observing her vigil prayers at a celestial church was physically assaulted by Danladi with an iron rod, causing grievous injury to the head, which also left the complainant disabled.
Motim said this act prompted the complainant to raise an alarm which alerted church members and subsequently led to the arrest of Danladi.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 335 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1 of Ogun 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O Sam-Obaleye adjourned the case until Oct.29 for hearing of fact following the defendant’s plea of guilt.
