A 30-year-old man, Chinmereuche Nwokonma on Wednesday stood before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly defrauding a man of 5.7 million.
Nwokonma, whose address was not stated is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at Oja in Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N5.7 million from a complainant, one Mr Adepegba Adeolu, under the pretext of supplying to him palatal materials.
He alleged that the defendant failed to make the the supply but converted the money to his personal use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 319(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N600, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the state government.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 20, for hearing.
