4 Jan 2026

An activitist in Osogbo, Mr. Adesegun Peter Talabi, has reported receiving threats to his life, allegedly linked to his public criticism of purported mismanagement of local government funds in Osun State.

Mr. Talabi, who serves as Secretary of the Civic Liberation Front (CLiF) and resides in the Neubertosh Community in Ofatedo, Osogbo, stated that he formally notified authorities on December 7, 2022, after what he described as escalating intimidation tied to his advocacy activities.

He alleged that from September through December 2022, he received multiple anonymous threats conveyed through encrypted voice messages and handwritten notes. According to him, the most direct confrontation occurred on December 2, 2022, when he was approached by unidentified men in an unregistered black Toyota Sienna while shopping in the Igbonna area of Osogbo. The individuals, who reportedly claimed affiliation with a group called Egbe-Asotele, allegedly warned him to cancel a planned protest or risk fatal consequences.

Mr. Talabi further claimed that on December 6, unknown persons believed to be associated with the same group were seen attempting to locate him and members of his immediate family, raising additional concerns for their safety.

Law enforcement authorities have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and confirmed that an investigation is underway. Mr. Talabi has been advised to temporarily relocate to a secure location pending the outcome of the inquiry.
