The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria(ALGON) elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Osun State, has described full autonomy for local governments as a sustainable solution to the growing insecurity in the country.

Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo, on Tuesday, the ALGON by led Abiodun Idowu said that local government autonomy would empower councils to take charge of security within their jurisdictions.

Idowu commended president Bola Tinubu for granting autonomy to the 774 local government area of Nigeria.

According to him, “Solution to insecurity in the country is autonomy to the local government. Local government will be empowered to watch people leaving in the locality, by employing enough vigilantes.

“When we have autonomy in the local government, the local government will be empowered to employ some people to watch the society, because even if we have state police it can’t go round, except we have our own local security.

“President Tinubu has done well by bringing this autonomy to local government and I am sure by few years to come, our town and villages would have improved if this autonomy can be well monitored and implemented” he said

While speaking on the legitimacy of local governments in Osun State, he said that the chairmen elected under the APC are the authentic council bosses, adding that they will soon roll out programmes for the benefit of the masses.

He said, “The Supreme Court has come and gone and it was a judgment of six against one. Anybody bringing anything against that is just a novice.

“We are still in charge of the local government, we are so much in charge of local government in Osun and very soon we will be rolling out programmes in Osun.

The grassroot is most important stage of the society and joking with that level is going to be a lot of wastage for the people,” he added.
