Leroy Sané replaces Victor Osimhen as Galatasaray’s Most Valuable Player

Galatasaray have pulled off one of the most high-profile transfers of the summer by signing former Manchester City and Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané, officially replacing Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen as the club’s most valuable player.

Sané, 29, arrives in Istanbul as a free agent after turning down a three-year contract extension from Bayern Munich, where he enjoyed a successful five-year spell.

Despite interest from Arsenal and lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League, the German international opted for Galatasaray’s ambitious Champions League project, reportedly signing a three-year deal worth €15 million annually.

During his time in Germany, Sané won four Bundesliga titles, made 220 appearances, scored 61 goals, and assisted 55 more. His departure marks the end of an era for Bayern, while his arrival signals the beginning of a new chapter for the Turkish champions.

Sané’s signing comes on the heels of Victor Osimhen’s return to Napoli following the conclusion of his loan spell in Turkey. Osimhen had joined Galatasaray last season with a staggering market valuation of €100 million — the highest for an African player at the time — and quickly became a sensation.

The Super Eagles striker bagged 37 goals and eight assists across all competitions, propelling Galatasaray to a domestic league and cup double. He was named the Super Lig’s top scorer and became the first Nigerian ever to win the Golden Boot in Turkey.

Though Osimhen’s market value has dipped to €70 million following his departure, his impact on the club remains profound. However, with his exit, Sané has now taken over the mantle as the Turkish Super Lig’s most valuable player, carrying a current valuation of €32 million.

Sané is expected to be officially unveiled in Istanbul in the coming days, stepping into the spotlight as Galatasaray’s new talisman.

While the club’s faithful continue to celebrate Osimhen’s unforgettable legacy, the stage is now set for Sané to lead Galatasaray into its next era of European and domestic ambitions.
