Lawmaker urges investment in primary education, builds classroom blocks

Mr Joseph Bassey, the member Representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar-South, in the National Assembly, has called for massive investments in primary education to safeguard the future of younger generation.

Bassey made the call on Monday while handing over completed classroom blocks to the Government Primary School Okoroba, Eneyo North, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River.

He urged all tiers of government, donor agencies and the private sector to pay more attention to the development of primary education in the country.

Represented by his Legislative Aide, Mr Joshua Ante, the lawmaker said that the classroom blocks were part of his promises to the people in 2023.

Bassey, also the Chairman, House Committee on Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness, said that political leaders should implement projects that would be of direct benefits to the people.

“It is time to fulfill promises. As political leaders, we should look beyond party lines. The wellbeing of our people should be given priority attention.

“We must invest more in the education of our children, they are definitely the leaders of tomorrow. The future lies in their hands,” he said.

He pledged his commitment to use his office in the national assembly to attract more people-oriented projects to his constituency.

On her part, Mrs Ump Bassey, the school’s Head Teacher, commended the lawmaker for the project, describing it as “renewal of hope”

“We thank you giving the school a beautiful new outlook. We know that a conducive environment promotes teaching and learning.

“This school was in a deplorable state before your intervention. Thank you for giving hope to our children,” she said.

Also speaking, a Community Leader, Mr Asuquo Asuquo, thanked the lawmaker for gesture, and called for good maintenance culture in the usage of the classroom blocks.
