The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), through its Project WISE (Central) team, has intensified efforts to enforce environmental sanitation laws across key parts of the state, curbing the activities of cart pushers and discouraging indiscriminate waste disposal.
The operation, led by Mr. Oladeji Adebayo, was carried out on Sunday, April 12, 2026, as part of the agency’s routine monitoring and enforcement drive aimed at maintaining environmental order.
During the exercise, officials covered major corridors including the Mile 2–Orile axis and the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, extending to Second Rainbow, Sanya, and Cele bus stops. The move aligns with the directives of the Lagos State Government to ensure compliance with sanitation regulations and promote a cleaner urban environment.
The sustained presence of enforcement teams is already yielding positive outcomes, according to LAWMA. The agency reports a reduction in illegal waste disposal practices and the activities of unregulated cart pushers, who often contribute to environmental degradation.
LAWMA reiterated its commitment to improving sanitation standards across the state, noting that such operations are critical to achieving a cleaner and healthier Lagos.
The agency urged residents and stakeholders to support government efforts by adopting proper waste disposal practices and embracing civic responsibility, in line with the state’s vision of sustainable urban sanitation.
This initiative is part of broader strategies by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to promote public health and urban sustainability.
