…Urges residents to report waste collection challenges
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting oral health hygiene among people with disabilities in the state.
General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA),Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal made the announcement during an event held on Monday in Alausa.
The theme of the event, “Oral Health: A Key to Cardiovascular Health, Special Focus on the Oral-Systemic Connection: Protecting Your Heart through Oral Care,” highlighted the crucial link between oral health and overall well-being.
Oyetunde-Lawal emphasised that many health challenges faced by people with disabilities are linked to inadequate oral hygiene practices.
She noted that the initiative was developed in response to numerous requests for medical and financial assistance from parents, guardians, and individuals with disabilities, many of which were associated with preventable oral hygiene problems.
In addition to informative sessions on oral care, the event featured expert talks on hygienic food practices and the importance of maintaining good oral health.
The state government is also offering free dental care services to improve the health of individuals with disabilities.
Oyetunde-Lawal further stated that the initiative would involve collaborations with private organisations, such as the Smiles Foundation, to raise awareness and provide practical solutions for better oral health care.
Dr. Funmi Adeniyi, the guest speaker at the event, stressed the importance of regular dental check-ups, advising attendees to visit a dentist at least twice a year for scaling and polishing.
She also emphasised the need for a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables to maintain good oral health.
