The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), is set to officially launch the groundbreaking Omi Eko Project on Friday, at the Five Cowries Terminal, Falomo.
The launch represents a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to sustainable development, modern water transportation, and smart city innovation under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to LASWA, the event will draw top government officials, development partners, community leaders, key stakeholders, and members of the press to witness the unveiling of this transformative initiative.
The ceremony will feature keynote speeches, a virtual presentation on the Omi Eko Project, and the official unveiling by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The Omi Eko Project is designed to revolutionize Lagos’s water transport system by integrating cutting-edge technology, improving terminal infrastructure, and advancing environmental sustainability.
A major highlight of the initiative is the deployment of 78 high-capacity electric ferries, alongside digital ticketing platforms, intelligent terminals, and enhanced safety innovations all aimed at reducing travel time and offering millions of commuters a reliable, eco-friendly transport option.
The choice of the Five Cowries Terminal as the venue underscores its role as a strategic hub for intermodal transport in Lagos, symbolizing the seamless connection between land and water mobility envisioned in the Lagos Urban Mobility Plan.
The Omi Eko Project, LASWA noted, signals a new era of efficient, sustainable, and modern transportation in Africa’s largest city.
