The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a in-house training programme for its senior officers, focusing on emotional management, professional etiquette, and time management as part of efforts to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.

The initiative, which began on Monday, is aimed at strengthening discipline within the agency while equipping officers with the skills required to effectively manage interactions with motorists and the general public.

Speaking on the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the training underscores the agency’s commitment to professionalism and institutional excellence.

He noted that traffic management in a complex city like Lagos requires not only technical expertise but also emotional stability and strong interpersonal skills.

“The success of the Authority depends largely on the discipline, professionalism, and emotional stability of its personnel. Beyond traffic control, our officers must uphold the highest standards of public service to build trust and maintain credibility,” Bakare-Oki said.

The training programme is designed to improve officer conduct, promote courteous engagement with the public, and ensure strict adherence to established procedures.

Participants are also being trained to manage pressure effectively, especially in tense situations that may arise during traffic enforcement.

In addition, the programme includes a comprehensive module on time management to help officers prioritize tasks, improve productivity, and respond promptly to traffic situations across the state.

Bakare-Oki added that the initiative would promote punctuality, accountability, and an organized workflow among senior officers, who are expected to serve as role models within the agency.

The training also features practical exercises and case studies to expose participants to real-life scenarios and the consequences of poor professional conduct and ineffective time management.

Other components of the programme include cybersecurity, report writing, presentation skills, understanding human behavior, threat management, and the effective use of communication radio systems.

The Authority expressed optimism that the training would translate into improved coordination, better public interaction, and a more disciplined workforce. Participants are expected to cascade the knowledge gained to other officers within the agency.
