Three persons were rescued with serious injuries on Wednesday following a multiple-vehicle crash along the LASU Isheri Road at Iyana School, inward Igando, Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) said the crash occurred after a Mack flatbed truck reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with a Toyota Sienna and two commercial tricycles.
According to a statement issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, officers of the agency, who were on routine patrol in the area, responded immediately to the incident. They rescued the trapped victims, managed traffic around the scene and prevented further accidents.
The agency said its officials worked with officers of the Iba Police Division to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the road, allowing traffic to return to normal.
LASTMA disclosed that three occupants—one man and two women—sustained serious fractures in the crash. They were rescued from the wreckage and taken to El-Shaddai Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The vehicles involved were a Mack flatbed truck, a Toyota vehicle with registration number FGC 80 XE and a TVS commercial tricycle with registration number LSR 604 QP.
Commenting on the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, praised the swift response of the agency’s emergency officers and urged motorists, especially drivers of trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles, to regularly inspect their vehicles before setting out.
He stressed that proper maintenance of braking systems and other key vehicle parts is essential to preventing avoidable road crashes and improving road safety across Lagos State.
Bakare-Oki also advised motorists to obey traffic regulations and report road emergencies through LASTMA’s toll-free emergency number, 3367, for quick intervention by the agency.
