The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of all private and commercial jetties as well as terminals along the Five Cowries Creek to enable the smooth hosting of the 2025 E1 Championship.
The shutdown, announced on Monday, will take effect from Friday, October 3, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, with operations expected to resume on Monday, October 6.
In a statement signed by the General Manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, the directive was addressed to ferry operators, passengers, and other stakeholders across the waterways sector.
According to him, the temporary restriction is necessary to provide safety and security for participants and spectators during the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, scheduled to hold along the Five Cowries Creek in Lagos.
“The waterways restriction is a vital safety and security measure to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events,” Mr Emmanuel said.
He added that commuters and ferry operators are advised to explore alternative routes during the period and make adequate travel arrangements ahead of time.
“The Lagos State Government appreciates your patience and understanding as we work together to deliver this historic world championship,” the LASWA boss stated.
