A 26-year-old landlord’s son, Clement David, who allegedly stole solar panels worth N750,000 belonging to their tenant, was on Wednesday docked at a Kaduna Magistrate’s Court.
David, a resident of Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, is charged for stealing.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 4 at the same address.
According to Leo, the defendant who is a landlord son to the complainant, Jerry Praise, stole his solar panels worth N750,000 while he was away on a trip.
He said that when the defendant was confronted by the other tenants, he said that he could do whatever he liked because the house belonged to his father.
Leo said the defendant was arrested after the complainant reported the matter at the police station.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017 which stipulated five years jail term for stealing if found guilty.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ibrahim said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court, and must present evidence of one year tax payment clearance to the Kaduna State Government.
He also ordered that the surety must be a blood relation of the defendant.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 8, for hearing.
