The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), will host the National SEMA Conference 2025 from October 2 to 4, 2025, at venues across Lagos.
Themed “Strengthening Sub-National Emergency Management for a Resilient Nigeria”, the conference will convene emergency managers, policymakers, security agencies, development partners, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, and Mr. Tunde Mohammed, NEMA’s Lagos Zone Coordinator.
The statement reads:
“The conference, themed ‘Strengthening Sub-National Emergency Management for a Resilient Nigeria’, will bring together emergency managers, policymakers, development partners, security institutions, private sector leaders, and civil society representatives from across Nigeria’s 36 states and the FCT.
“Conference Highlights include an opening ceremony and high-level dialogue at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Maryland, Lagos, featuring keynote addresses, technical discussions, and cross-sector collaboration. Days 2 and 3 will feature a live simulation exercise at the Lagos State Emergency and Relief/Rescue Camp, Igando, demonstrating coordinated multi-agency response to complex disaster scenarios.
”Lagos continues to lead the country in sub-national emergency management, having handled over 13,700 incidents between 2008 and 2025, including fires, road accidents, structural collapses, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, and large-scale disasters.
According to the statement, more than 1,450 emergencies were managed in the first eight months of 2025 alone, with targeted interventions for children since 2023 improving survival outcomes.
The collaboration between LASEMA and NEMA, combined with the use of advanced technology and rigorous training, underscores Lagos’ commitment to strengthening resilience and effective disaster management across Nigeria.
