The Lagos State enforcement team has cleared illegal street traders from Bishop Oluwole Street in Victoria Island.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the operation on Monday via the ministry’s official X handle, describing it as part of sustained efforts to restore order across the city.
“Our enforcement teams have just completed a successful operation against illegal street traders on Bishop Oluwole Street in Victoria Island. This action is part of our ongoing drive to restore order, ensure free movement for vehicles and pedestrians, and uphold the aesthetic and environmental standards of Lagos,” Wahab stated.
The commissioner noted that traders had been directed to relocate to government-approved markets and commercial zones, adding that repeated violations would attract harsher penalties. “We call on all traders to move to approved locations. Persistent violations will lead to stricter sanctions,” he said.
The Lagos State government has stepped up enforcement against street trading and illegal structures along major roads in recent months, aiming to improve traffic flow, boost public safety, and preserve the city’s environmental standards.
