Lagos Police command withdraws taskforce from traffic enforcement duties

‎The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) from all traffic control and enforcement duties across the state.

‎The directive is part of ongoing efforts to streamline traffic management operations and promote professionalism, accountability, and operational clarity among enforcement bodies in Lagos.

‎In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command clarified that while the Taskforce has been removed from traffic-related duties, it will continue to carry out its other statutory responsibilities, particularly those relating to environmental sanitation and special offences.

‎Authorities also cautioned the public against generalising all enforcement personnel as belonging to the Taskforce, noting that multiple taskforces operate within Lagos State. Residents and motorists are therefore advised to verify the identity of officials before making allegations, especially in traffic-related matters.

‎The press statement noted that the Lagos State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property reaffirming its commitment to law enforcement, the Command stated that it remains focused on safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that all operations align with established legal frameworks and best practices.

‎The development is expected to reshape traffic enforcement in Lagos, with clearer role definitions among agencies and reduced overlap in responsibilities.
