The Lagos State Government has announced the reintroduction of the mandatory monthly environmental sanitation exercise, effective April 25, 2026.
The policy, suspended for nearly a decade, returns as a central pillar of the state’s renewed strategy to address urban waste management and public health.
The resumption coincides with an aggressive multi-sectoral development push involving significant investments in transportation, education, and healthcare infrastructure.
As part of the state’s urban renewal efforts, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency I, conducted a formal inspection of ongoing road projects this week.
The works span Oluwasanmi, Baba Ode, Deji Adeoye, and Alhaji Sokoya streets. Ogundipe said the projects are designed to enhance mobility and stimulate economic activity in high-density areas. “These roads will significantly reduce travel time and address the long-standing infrastructure deficit in our communities,” he said.
The state has further expanded its social infrastructure through two key initiatives: Education and Healthcare. The inauguration of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Secondary School in Abaranje, Alimosho, provides the community with its first public secondary school, reducing student commute times.
Seyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, launched a free medical scheme that has already enrolled 1,000 vulnerable residents into the state-supported healthcare program.
The Ministry of the Environment noted that the April 25 exercise will involve the traditional restriction of movement during the designated morning hours. This window helps coordinate waste collection and drainage clearance across the city.
Officials emphasized that the combination of strict environmental enforcement and expanded public services reflects a comprehensive approach to improving the quality of life for all Lagos residents.
