The Police Command in Lagos State, has detained five suspected telecommunication vandals and recovered a truckload of suspected stolen iron rods in Ibeju-Lekki area of the state.
The is contained in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.
According to Adebisi, the arrest is part of the command’s intensified efforts to curb vandalism and theft of critical infrastructure across Lagos.
Adebisi said the suspects, who ages were between 18 and 29, were caught in the act.
“They were caught stealing iron poles meant for the construction of telecommunication masts and were arrested while trying to convey the materials in a truck, ” she said.
Adebisi said that the suspects were currently in police custody, while the case is being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.
The image maker said that investigation was ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects and unravel the full extent of their activities.
Adebisi said the command appreciated the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, for its cooperation and synergy, stressing that it contributed significantly to the successful operation and arrest of the suspects.
The spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, reiterated the command’s resolve to protect critical infrastructure and bring perpetrators of vandalism to justice.
