The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting his employer’s two-year-old son in Elemoro and demanding a N5 million ransom for his release.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement on Monday that the incident occurred on September 21, when the child’s mother reported that Kini had disappeared with her son and her mobile phone around 11:50 p.m.
The suspect later used the stolen phone to contact the boy’s father and issue the ransom demand.
Following surveillance and intelligence operations, officers from Elemoro Division traced Kini’s guarantor, intensifying pressure on the suspect until he released the child. On September 23, at about 2:00 p.m., the police Tactical Squad (Hyena) arrested Kini at his hideout in Elemoro, where he confessed to the crime.
The toddler was safely reunited with his family, while Kini remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.
Condemning the act, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, described the abduction as “heinous” and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes in Lagos State.
