…Manhunt launched for syndicate’s remaining accomplices

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended four individuals linked to a visa scam totalling over ₦500 million, which reportedly defrauded more than 100 Nigerians with bogus promises of overseas employment.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 36, were staff of an education consultancy firm based in the Ago Okota area of Lagos. They are accused of enticing victims with fraudulent assurances of obtaining work visas for Canada and Australia.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the matter was initially reported to the Ago Okota Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation.

“Preliminary enquiries revealed that the suspects orchestrated the fraud under the pretence of processing foreign work permits,” Hundeyin stated. “Further investigation has identified additional members of the syndicate. Efforts are currently underway to locate and bring them to justice.”

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, has appealed to residents to remain vigilant and thoroughly verify the credibility of travel and recruitment agencies before engaging them for visa-related services.
