The Lagos State Government has mandated the compulsory use of reflective jackets and visibility tapes by all dispatch riders and courier service providers operating within the state during evening and night hours.
In a directive issued through the Ministry of Transportation, riders working between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. must wear reflective jackets, while all motorcycles and bicycles used for deliveries are to be fitted with reflective markers to enhance visibility and reduce accidents.
The order, communicated in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport Education and Innovation, Mr Oluwatobi Idowu, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Olawale Musa, warned operators to ensure strict compliance or face sanctions from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).
In line with the directive, Glovo Nigeria, one of the leading courier companies in the state, announced plans to provide 3,000 reflective vests free of charge to its riders within the next month.
The company’s General Manager, Mr Lamide Akinola, in a letter to the Ministry, commended the state government for prioritising road safety and pledged full compliance.
He also urged other operators to adopt similar measures in order to safeguard both their riders and the public.
The Ministry of Transportation welcomed Glovo’s gesture and called for sustained collaboration with courier and logistics providers as part of broader efforts to build a safer and more responsible delivery system in Lagos State.
