Lagos State Education District 3, in collaboration with TechFam, has hosted the 2026 Robotics Demonstration Competition, bringing together female students from across the district to showcase innovation and technological skills.

‎The event, held at the National Stadium Surulere, was themed “Science Leading the Path to Growth and Development” and focused on promoting girls’ participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), particularly robotics.

‎TechFam, founded by Kelechi C Iwuamadi, is dedicated to empowering young African girls with digital and technological skills, encouraging them to develop solutions to real-world challenges and compete globally.

‎Speaking at the event, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District III, Olawale Olusegun Osinaike, commended the organisation for its sustained commitment to advancing girl-child education through technology-driven initiatives. He noted the increasing participation and success of female students in international competitions, including recent outings in Turkey.

‎Osinaike also highlighted the growing leadership capacity of girls in Lagos State, referencing initiatives such as the One-Day Governor programme as evidence of academic excellence and empowerment among female students.

‎He further acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government, stating that partnerships with organisations like TechFam align with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, particularly in advancing education and technological development.

‎In her remarks, Iwuamadi reiterated TechFam’s commitment to nurturing a generation of purpose-driven, creative and solution-oriented girls. She explained that the initiative aligns with the vision of the World Robotics Olympiad, which aims to inspire young minds to develop innovative technological solutions.

‎She also emphasised the inclusiveness of the programme, noting that students with special needs who participated in previous editions demonstrated exceptional performance.

‎The two-hour competition featured participants from five schools across junior and senior categories. At the end of the contest, Dolphin Senior High School emerged overall winner, while Okesuna Junior Secondary School and Epe Junior Grammar School placed second and third respectively.

‎Winners and participants received prizes including laptops, mobile phones and tablets, reinforcing the district’s commitment to promoting holistic learning and excellence beyond the classroom.

‎The event underscores Education District III’s dedication to fostering innovation, inclusivity and academic excellence, while equipping students with skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world.
