The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has sealed off the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island for the indiscriminate discharge of wastewater into a public drain.
The enforcement exercise, carried out on Tuesday, also affected Foodies Restaurant on Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I, Eti-Osa.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted Wednesday on the official X handle of Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.
The statement reads, “The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, sealed off the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, for the indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage into the public drain using a pumping machine. The facility also failed to address wastewater spillage from a blocked sewage chamber, which caused a public nuisance and a foul odor.”
“The agency also sealed off Foodies Restaurant at No. 32B, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase I, Eti-Osa, for the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater containing large deposits of fats and oils into public drains. This practice clogged the drains and caused a foul smell, environmental nuisance, and pollution, despite several prior warnings.”
The Lagos State government encouraged residents and property managers to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices.
It further noted that any individual or organization found contravening environmental regulations will face appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with enabling laws.
