‎The Lagos State Government has taken steps to improve transparency and accountability in public institutions through the introduction of sustainability reporting standards for government agencies and state owned enterprises.

‎This was the focus of a multi-agency executive stakeholders meeting organised by the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in partnership with the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC).

‎The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss how government institutions can better report their activities, use resources responsibly and contribute to long-term development.

‎According to the organisers, the adoption of sustainability reporting standards will help Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as state-owned enterprises, provide clearer information about their operations and the impact of their activities on society and the environment noting that the move is aimed at promoting openness, responsible leadership and better decision-making in government.

‎The stakeholders further noted that the initiative marks another important step in Lagos State’s efforts to build stronger institutions and improve public trust through greater accountability adding that regular sustainability reporting would help government agencies measure their progress, identify challenges and improve service delivery to residents.

‎The initiative which is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to strengthen governance and promote responsible management across public institutions reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to supporting sustainable development and ensuring that government programmes deliver lasting benefits to the people.
