…as Commissoner warns against defiance, promises strict sanctions

The Lagos State Government has issued a firm ultimatum to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) to ensure full compliance with the Lekki E-Call-Up System by November 10, warning that continued violations will no longer be tolerated.
The directive was given by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a high-level meeting with NUPENG executives held at Alausa, Ikeja, where he expressed serious concern over the persistent disregard for the electronic booking process by some tanker operators.
Mr. Osiyemi condemned the recurring breaches of the traffic control system, describing them as a major setback to government efforts aimed at improving traffic flow and curbing indiscriminate parking along the Lekki–Epe corridor.
Osiyemi said:“The e-call-up platform was introduced to promote transparency and eliminate manual interference in the movement of petroleum tankers. Unfortunately, the non-compliance of some operators has encouraged illegal cash transactions and worsened congestion in key traffic zones.”
He reaffirmed that the Lagos State Government would begin strict enforcement immediately after the November 10 deadline if the union fails to enforce compliance among its members.
Responding to the commissioner’s warning, NUPENG representatives at the meeting promised to intensify sensitisation campaigns across their branches to ensure that all tanker drivers and depot operators adhere strictly to the e-call-up guidelines.
They also assured the ministry that logistical and administrative issues affecting the implementation of the system would be swiftly addressed to guarantee full compliance going forward.
“We are committed to working closely with the state government to maintain order and ensure smooth operations across the Lekki–Epe axis,” a senior NUPENG official stated.
The meeting also had in attendance top officials of the Lekki E-Call-Up Management Team and senior directors from the Ministry of Transportation, who reiterated the state’s readiness to enforce discipline, reduce gridlock, and maintain sanity within Lagos’ transport corridors.
