The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has extended condolences to victims of the fire outbreaks at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos on Sept. 16.
In a statement on Thursday, NIA Chairman Kunle Ahmed said the association deeply mourned the loss of lives and property while standing in solidarity with individuals, families, and businesses affected by the tragedy.
Ahmed confirmed that the association had identified member companies providing insurance cover for the two buildings. He assured victims that valid claims under existing policies would be settled by the respective insurers.
“The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) extends heartfelt condolences to all individuals, families, and businesses affected by the tragic fire incidents at Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza.
“We mourn the loss of lives and property and stand in solidarity with those who are grieving and rebuilding after this unfortunate event.
“As the umbrella body for insurance and reinsurance companies in Nigeria, we assure all affected parties that our identified member companies who provided insurance cover for the buildings will compensate losses under valid policies. The industry remains committed to its promise of protection and financial recovery in times of crisis,” he said.
Ahmed urged Nigerians, especially business owners, to embrace insurance as an essential tool for risk management and resilience.
He stressed that insurance offered critical protection in a world where unforeseen events often carried far-reaching consequences.
