Lagos DSVA rescues abandoned toddler

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has rescued a three year old toddler allegedly abandoned by her mother in the Ipaja following an alarm raised by concerned neighbours.

The incident which came to light after residents reported the child’s deteriorating condition and alleged neglect.

According to sources, the mother was said to have abandoned the toddler based on claims that the child was a witch, leaving her in a vulnerable state without proper care. The child was reportedly malnourished and seen struggling to meet basic needs.

Following the alert, the case was escalated to relevant authorities, prompting swift intervention by the DSVA in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, was said to have directed a team to trace the address, leading to the successful rescue of the child.

The toddler is currently in protective custody under state care, while the Nigeria Police Force has commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident stating that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The development underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting in addressing cases of child abuse and neglect.
