The Lagos State Government has revealed that it has disbursed five hundred and four million naira (#504m) in scholarships
The Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, disclosed this during a ministerial press briefing marking the third year anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.
Speaking, Sule stated that the government has strengthened partnerships with institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia to improve academic standards and enhance the global competitiveness of Lagos-owned tertiary institutions.
According to the commissioner, the state has also expanded digital learning infrastructure and upgraded transportation facilities to improve teaching, learning, and student mobility.
Lagos disburses ₦504m in scholarships, as 4,394 students benefitHe noted that the Lagos State College of Nursing and the Lagos State College of Health Technology recorded significant progress in hostel accommodation, ICT infrastructure, entrepreneurship training, and healthcare education during the review period.
The Commissioner further revealed that the Lagos State Scholarship Board disbursed more than ₦504 million in bursaries and scholarships to 4,394 beneficiaries.
He aded that the board also introduced a Special Scholarship for Inclusion targeted at supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable residents.
Regarding adult literacy and non-formal education, Sule noted that the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education increased stipends for facilitators, expanded vocational training centers, and strengthened literacy programs across various communities.
Highlighting achievements in educational development, the Lagos State Library Board reported increased readership, the expansion of solar-powered libraries, and sustained reading advocacy campaigns in public secondary schools.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to educational advancement, Sule said Lagos remains focused on transforming its tertiary institutions into centers of global excellence capable of driving innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development.
