Lagos deploys 10 ambulance bikes to slash emergency response time

The Lagos State Government has unveiled 10 Motorcycle Response Unit Ambulances, Ambulance Bikes to boost emergency response and pre-hospital care across the state.

The bikes, handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service on Tuesday, are designed to navigate traffic, narrow streets, and hard-to-reach areas, ensuring faster interventions where minutes can mean life or death.

Equipped with defibrillators, oxygen tanks, nebulizers, pulse oximeters, glucometers, and other essential emergency tools, the 220CC bikes are manned by trained paramedics ready to provide immediate first aid before full-sized ambulances arrive.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi has: “These Ambu-bikes are Lagos’ solution to megacity traffic. They reach patients faster, stabilize them, and call for larger ambulances if needed. Lives will be saved in record time.”

Ogunyemi also highlighted cost efficiency: deploying an Ambu-bike is far cheaper than a traditional ambulance while delivering faster, life-saving outcomes.

“This is about access, rapid response, and saving lives. Lagos is once again leading healthcare innovation in Nigeria,” she added.
