The Lagos State Civil Service Commission has called for continuous learning, innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies to strengthen the capacity of public servants and improve service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The call was made as the Commission commenced its Y2025/Y2026 Career Week Programme, with emphasis on developing a competent, adaptable and future-ready workforce for the Lagos State Public Service.
Speaking at the commencement of the programme, Chairman of the Commission, Mrs. Boladele Dapo-Thomas, said the initiative was designed not merely as a conventional capacity-building exercise but as a deliberate intervention to drive workforce development and institutional transformation.
Dapo-Thomas said the programme would equip civil servants with relevant knowledge, skills and competencies needed to respond proactively to the changing demands of public administration.
She identified digital media and archiving for strategic communication in government business, as well as business process automation across MDAs, as the key areas of focus for this year’s programme.
According to her, the increasing adoption of emerging technologies has become critical to the effective functioning of government institutions, particularly in an era where citizens expect faster, more transparent and efficient public services.
She stressed the need for public servants to embrace digital tools while strengthening systems for preserving institutional knowledge and records.
The Commission chairman noted that effective archiving would help government retain institutional memory, while automation would simplify bureaucratic processes, reduce avoidable delays and improve efficiency in public administration.
She said the Career Week programme was therefore aimed at preparing civil servants to adapt to technological changes while contributing meaningfully to the transformation of the state’s public service.
Dapo-Thomas reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to building a disciplined and performance-driven workforce capable of supporting the Lagos State Government’s development agenda.
The programme brings together public servants across various MDAs, providing a platform for professional development, knowledge sharing and discussions on emerging trends in public sector administration.
