Lagos Aviation Academy (LAA) has revealed that since its establishment in 2017, it has trained more than 3,000 professionals across a broad spectrum of aviation disciplines. These include cabin crew training, flight dispatch, IATA travel and tourism, cargo handling, helicopter landing operations, and visa processing.
The academy, which boasts a job placement rate of over 60 percent, confirmed that its graduates are currently employed in various capacities within airlines, travel agencies, and aviation service providers across Nigeria and the wider West African region.
In a significant development, the Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation, Imah Eno Utum, visited the Academy this month as it marked its eighth anniversary in Nigeria’s aviation landscape. The Commissioner toured the training facility and engaged with staff on the evolving challenges of workforce development in the sector.
The visit is particularly timely, as Cross River State prepares to train 100 aviation professionals in anticipation of launching its own aircraft operations. Commissioner Utum expressed keen interest in collaborating with LAA to support the State’s ambitious aviation goals.
“Institutions like LAA are not just addressing the current needs of the industry; they are playing a pivotal role in defining its future,” he told reporters during the visit.
“As we work to expand aviation across Nigeria, the availability of skilled talent and the kind of industry-relevant training offered by LAA are essential.”
LAA has earned repeated accolades from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), receiving Best Performer Awards in 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024. The Academy also maintains its accreditation as an IATA Authorised Training Centre, reinforcing its status as a respected provider of professional aviation training.
“When we say we’re building professionals, we’re referring to individuals who are equipped to meet global aviation standards,” said Bolaji Durojaiye, Head of School at Lagos Aviation Academy.
“We’ve developed a training model that combines technical skill development with practical readiness. That’s how we continue to meet industry needs and remain relevant.”
The Academy’s Lagos campus is outfitted with smart classrooms and simulation technologies, supporting a curriculum that adheres to international standards. This infrastructure underpins LAA’s ongoing contribution to Nigeria’s aviation value chain, supplying certified talent to airlines, airports, tour operators, and logistics firms.
With Nigeria’s aviation sector undergoing rapid expansion, institutions like LAA are under growing pressure to supply competent professionals capable of operating to both local and global standards.
As demand increases from students across Nigeria and West Africa seeking high-quality, internationally competitive aviation training, LAA’s eight-year record of success positions it as a leader in aviation education and a reliable platform for career advancement throughout the region.
