…Offenders to face prosecution under environmental sanitation laws

The Lagos State Government on Monday apprehended 14 individuals for offences related to open defecation and public urination in Agege and Alimosho, two of the state’s most densely populated districts.
The enforcement operation was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI/LAGESC), with assistance from a sister paramilitary agency.
Those arrested, all male and aged between 20 and 55, include Friday Samuel (49), Sulaimon Olalekan (54), Idris Jimoh (45), Alao Babatunde (54), Chinonso Dominic (21), Akeem Suraju (42), Lawal Idris (29), Oluwatobi Adebayo (30), Ismaila Adeyemi (35), Murtala Jamilu (20), Samson Memudia (54), Jamilu Abdullahi (29), and Ganiyu Akeem (55).
According to authorities, the suspects will face prosecution in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Laws, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness and safeguard public health.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, the government reiterated its commitment to the #CleanerLagos initiative, stressing that public nuisance offences such as open defecation would no longer be tolerated.
Officials also appealed to members of the public to utilise existing public toilet and sanitation facilities to avoid penalties.
