A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old labourer , Shuiabu Abubakar to 30 months imprisonment for stealing wrappers and clothing from a shop.
Abubakar pleaded guilty to trespass, mischief and theft.
The Magistrate, Mrs Hannatu Ashom, however gave Abubakar an option on N180,000 fine.
While reviewing the facts, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported at the Nassarawa Gwong Police Station by Hajiya Shakira Abdullazeez, the complainant.
Gokwat said the convict broke into the complainant’s shop and stole Ankara wrappers and clothing materials worth N158,000.
During Police investigation, the prosecution said, some of the stolen materials were recovered from the convict.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Plateau Penal Code Law.
