KWASU researchers secure $43,913 TWAS-UNESCO, N83m NRF grants

Four researchers from Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, have secured research grants totaling $43,913 and ₦83 million from two renowned funding organizations.

The grants reaffirm the university’s growing reputation for research excellence, learning, teaching, and community service.

This was made known in a statement issued to journalists in Ilorin by the Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedatu Aliyu. She noted that a research team led by Dr. Bolatito Eunice Olanipekun as Principal Investigator was awarded the $43,913 research grant by TWAS-UNESCO.

The statement added that three other KWASU researchers emerged successful under the 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) grant scheme.

The team led by Dr. Abdulwaheed Musa received ₦37,590,000, while Dr. Kehinde Peter Alabi’s team secured ₦25,000,000. Another team led by Dr. Khafayat Yetunde Olatinwo was awarded ₦20,435,900.

While presenting the award letters to the successful researchers, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, commended the outstanding achievement, describing the success as a reflection of the university’s support for impactful research and innovation.

Jimoh further charged the awardees to mentor early-career researchers, stressing the importance of building a strong research culture that will continue to attract competitive grants and enhance the institution’s global visibility.

The Vice-Chancellor remarked that the institution has maintained high academic excellence in teaching and learning, and continues to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to accelerate the development of the university.
