The Rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has stated that the institution will continue to advance vocational and technological innovations to drive the nation’s technological progress.
Mohammed made this known while speaking during the third international conference of the Institute of Environmental Studies, held at the institution in Ilorin.
He lauded the state government for creating an enabling environment for the institution’s vocational and technological initiatives, which align with the polytechnic’s core mandate.
The rector attributed the management’s successes to the support and level playing field provided by the government.
Speaking on the conference theme, “Scientific and Technological Innovations in the Built Environment in the 21st Century: Towards Social and Economic Development of Nigeria,” the rector urged participants to explore science and technology as veritable tools for national development.
Earlier, the Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies, Arch. Yunus Bolaji Azeez, noted that rapid advancements in science and technology have presented unprecedented opportunities to enhance the quality of life, foster economic growth, and address social challenges within communities.
According to him, the conference provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, the sharing of best practices, and collaboration on innovative solutions that can transform the environment.
He also called on participants to leverage innovation not only for technological advancement, but as a catalyst for social equity and economic development.
Additionally, the Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Surv. Rotimi Olatunde Asonibare, appreciated the rector for his support in preparing 21st-century academics and students for national development.
He stressed that modern educators must emphasize practical applications and problem-solving approaches to manage daily environmental challenges in a globalized world.
Highlights of the opening ceremony included the presentation of awards to the rector, all former directors of the institute, and a former deputy director, alongside the official presentation of a landscaping document for the polytechnic environment to the rector.
