The Kwara State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers linked to the abduction of a farmer in Boriya Village via Okuta, Baruten Local Government Area.

This was made known in a statement by the State Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who said the victim, Isaq J., was kidnapped on his farm last April. She added that the suspects demanded a ₦50 million ransom from the victim.

The statement noted that police arrested Mohammed Shede of Boriya Village in April, and he confessed to providing actionable intelligence to gang members identified as “Smalley” and “Borugujo,” which facilitated the abduction.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Abubakar Aliu, identified as the gang’s armourer, alongside Abu Sonkpia, Saliu Yakubu, and Sanni Sakariyau, all of Boriya Village.

Ejire-Adeyemi said items recovered include two locally made rifles and six mobile handsets, noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend “Smalley,” “Borugujo,” and two other fleeing accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the Command remains committed to dismantling criminal syndicates and sustaining pressure on kidnappers.

The Commissioner noted that the command would continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to address the current security situation in the state, with a view to restoring peace in all parts of Kwara.
