The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable agricultural development and economic diversification through its active participation in national stakeholder discussions.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, stated this recently during a workshop in Lagos focused on the Validation of Guidance for Responsible Production of Cane Sugar in Nigeria.
Representing the State Government at the event, the Commissioner described the engagement as being in perfect alignment with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to build a resilient and commercially viable agricultural sector.
Reflecting on the outcomes of the workshop, Dr. Alabi noted that the adoption of this guidance framework would enhance productivity, improve quality standards, and significantly strengthen the sugarcane value chain.
He further explained that adopting such framework guidance would position the state to attract more investment, create jobs, and expand agro-industrial opportunities.
The Commissioner added that local farmers stand to benefit from improved production techniques, better market access, and increased income, all driven by the adoption of sustainable and globally competitive practices.
Dr. Alabi also highlighted the Governor’s sustained prioritization of agriculture through policies that promote value addition, private sector participation, and long-term sector growth.
He noted with satisfaction that the present administration’s efforts continue to create an enabling environment for investments, particularly those emerging within the sugar value chain.
The Commisisoner further called on investors, agribusiness stakeholders, and farmers to leverage these opportunities by aligning with responsible production standards and contributing to the growth of a competitive and sustainable agricultural economy.
