The Kwara State Government has donated essential materials worth millions of naira to the State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service to improve the welfare of inmates and officers.

The items were officially presented to the Command on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government by the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Alh. Abdulganiyu Shuaib Yitta, at the Command headquarters.

He acknowledged the enormous task the Correctional Service undertakes in its bid to curb social vices in society, particularly among youth.

“The administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recognizes the Service and the critical role it plays in transforming the state into a socially responsible society,” the Permanent Secretary said.

He stated that the government’s resolve to make the donation was driven by the need to ensure the Service is properly equipped to carry out its mandate efficiently.

Yitta stressed that the state government has extended assistance and support to the Command multiple times in recent years, reflecting the high priority it places on the agency.

He commended the management and officers of the Command for their dedication to duty, urged them to ensure the judicious use of the materials, and assured them of the government’s continuous support.

Earlier, the State Controller, Mr. Femi Tolorunlagba, lauded the state government for its prompt response to the Service’s request.

Tolorunlagba explained that the gesture would go a long way in easing the hardships experienced by inmates in the Command.

He pledged the Command’s total support and cooperation with the state government in achieving a crime-free society.

Items donated included desktop computers, vocational training materials, mattresses, and toiletries, among others.
