Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the recent banditry attack in Kaiama Local Government Area as an unacceptable violation of religious freedom, vowing that the Federal Government will move decisively to eliminate the criminal elements responsible.

Speaking during a sympathy visit to Ilorin on Sunday, the Vice President described the scale of the carnage which claimed over one hundred lives as a tragedy that has profoundly shocked the nation.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Vice President extended condolences to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the people of the Woro and Nuku communities, which were invaded on the evening of Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Shettima noted that the victims were peaceful residents dedicated to their livelihoods and faith, lamenting that their traditional, tolerant practices had been targeted by an alien religious belief foreign to the region’s history.

To address the immediate security threat, the Vice President announced the deployment of a battalion of the Nigerian Army to Kaiama and surrounding areas.

While emphasizing the sensitivity of tactical details, he reassured the state that all necessary measures are being taken to restore tranquility.

Additionally, the President has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to partner with the state to provide immediate relief to the distressed communities.

Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s swift response, noting the presence of the General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division and the Police DIG of Operations on the ground.

The Governor confirmed that troops from Operation Savannah Shield are already being deployed to secure the border communities and prevent future occurrences.

Joining the delegation, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum also offered prayers for the departed souls, urging continued support for the administration’s efforts to stabilize the nation.
