The Kwara State Government has urged residents in parts of Kwara South to restrict movement and remain vigilant following intensified security operations against kidnappers in border communities with Kogi State.
Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, issued the advisory in Ilorin on Wednesday, noting that combined security forces have launched raids on suspected hideouts in forests spanning Ekiti, Ifelodun, Isin, Oke Ero, and Irepodun local government areas.
“We urge people to be very vigilant and limit their movements to only very necessary routines to avoid being caught unawares as the kidnappers are fleeing their hideouts. We do not want law-abiding citizens to be affected,” she said.
Olukoju added that while the restriction may cause temporary inconvenience, the measure was necessary to safeguard lives and property. She commended security agencies for their renewed offensive and urged them to sustain pressure until the criminal networks are dismantled.
The commissioner stressed that the state has mapped out strategies with military and security stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach against banditry.
Kwara South has in recent months witnessed repeated attacks by armed gangs, including the killing of security personnel, vigilantes, and civilians. The latest incident occurred in Oke Ode, Ifelodun LGA, where forest guards and community members were murdered during a raid.
