Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has paid condolence visits to the families of six citizens who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident on the Lokoja–Okene road on Wednesday.
The victims, alongside 13 others who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were returning from the Government House in Lokoja, where they had attended the commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
During his private meetings with the bereaved families, Governor Ododo expressed deep shock and sadness, describing the tragedy as a profound loss for the entire state.
He noted that the deceased were patriotic citizens who had traveled to celebrate dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity, only to meet their untimely death on their return journey.
The Governor offered prayers and words of encouragement, reassuring the families that the Kogi State Government stands firmly with them and will provide all necessary assistance during this difficult period.
Confirming the casualty figures in an official statement, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the incident as a “state tragedy of devastating magnitude.”
He announced that the Governor has directed the state government to take full responsibility for the medical care of all injured victims until they make a full recovery.
To ensure this directive is carried out effectively, Governor Ododo has deployed government officials and Ministry of Health personnel to the various facilities where the survivors are being treated. They are tasked with monitoring the victims’ recovery and ensuring their medical, welfare, and psychosocial needs are promptly met.
The Governor urged the people of Kogi State to unite in prayer for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and for the speedy recovery of those currently hospitalized.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the affected families through this painful and irreparable loss.
