The Nigerian aviation sector was a focal point of discussions on Thursday, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, calling for enhanced collaboration between the judiciary and regulatory bodies to boost safety and security.
Speaking at the NCAA Conference in Abuja, themed “The Role of Judges in Sustaining Nigeria’s Adherence to Applicable International Conventions in Relation to Carriage by Air,” Keyamo emphasized that a strong partnership between the judiciary and aviation regulators is vital.
According to Keyamo, this collaboration is crucial for consistency in the interpretation and enforcement of aviation laws and international conventions.
He noted that aviation disputes often involve complex technical and legal issues, requiring judges to have a specialized understanding of global standards, insurance mechanisms, and operational realities.
The Minister argued that this synergy would help foster a system built on safety, accountability, and justice key pillars necessary for attracting investment and maintaining international confidence in the sector.
NCAA Director General, Captain Chris Najomo, supported the call, reaffirming that Nigeria’s adherence to global aviation conventions reflects the nation’s integrity.
He stressed that while regulations provide structure, judicial interpretation ensures fairness and durability in enforcing aviation standards.
