The Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV) has rehabilitated and upgraded nine government-owned vehicles, a move officials say has saved the Katsina State Government millions of naira in maintenance costs.

The overhaul was carried
out by the Central Mechanical Workshop at the Katsina Youth Craft Village, reinforcing the state’s drive towards cost efficiency, asset preservation and reduced reliance on external contractors.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi Kofar Soro, who said the exercise highlights the growing technical capacity within government-owned facilities.

According to the statement, two Toyota Hilux vans manufactured in 2008 were fully refurbished and upgraded to meet modern operational standards.

It reads: “The vehicles have been completely overhauled and modernised to 2024 operational standards, following extensive mechanical, electrical and bodywork enhancements.”

Engr. Kofar Soro explained that the upgrades significantly extended the lifespan of the vehicles while ensuring compliance with current safety and performance requirements.

In a further boost to government operations, the statement disclosed that a Mercedes-Benz 911 truck had been converted into a fully functional mobile workshop.

“The mobile workshop is designed to provide on-the-spot mechanical support, maintenance and rapid response services, particularly for field operations,” the statement added.

He noted that the initiative would reduce downtime, improve efficiency on government projects and strengthen rapid response capacity across the state.

Engr. Kofar Soro stressed that the achievement underscores the strategic importance of the Central Mechanical Workshop, adding that the in-house repairs demonstrate prudent management of public resources and a deliberate effort to cut costs without compromising quality.
