The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested three suspected vandals and recovered stolen electrical cables and other items in Rimi Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Katsina.

He said the suspects were arrested on Sunday at about 8:30 p.m. by operatives attached to the Rimi Police Division during a routine patrol carried out in collaboration with members of the local community.

He said the suspects were intercepted while in possession of the suspected stolen cables.

According to him, a preliminary investigation and search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 60 metres of 100mm electric cable believed to have been vandalised.

He added that the police also recovered a hacksaw, a pair of scissors, a knife, suspected criminal charms, a motorcycle and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The police spokesman said the suspects were in custody and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Sadiq-Aliyu quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ali Umar Fage, as commending members of the community for their vigilance and cooperation with the police in combating vandalism.

He said the commissioner warned individuals involved in the vandalisation and theft of public or private property to desist or face the full weight of the law.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting critical public infrastructure and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support efforts at tackling crime across the state.
