The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, says its operatives have foiled an attempted kidnap and cattle rustling incident in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, on Friday in Kano.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at Bakin Komau in the Dangora area of Kiru LGA when armed assailants attacked a shepherd, inflicted serious injuries on him, and abducted two people while attempting to rustle livestock.
“Upon receiving a distress call, NSCDC personnel stationed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the suspects in a gun duel.
“The criminals were overwhelmed by the superior response of the NSCDC operatives and were forced to abandon the kidnapped victims before fleeing into the forest with injuries.
“The operation successfully thwarted the kidnap and cattle rustling attempt,” it maintained.
It added that the rescued victims were identified as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhammad Inuwa Dille, 30, noting that both had since been reunited with their families.
The statement added that the injured shepherd, Alhaji Saleh, 70, received immediate medical attention following the attack.
It explained that the NSCDC personnel were deployed to the area to provide security for an ongoing dam construction project and to protect grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
The statement reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets across the state.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to facilitate prompt responses to security threats.
